Russian Pop Stars The Turetsky Choir Art Group Caps North American Tour in Chicago May 2

Moscow’s celebrated Turetsky Choir Art Group, one of Russia’s most popular singing sensations, presents “Forever Music” at the Arie Crown Theater, 2301 South Lake Shore Drive. Sunday, May 2 at 7 p.m. This engagement caps the Group’s seven city 2010 North American tour which includes appearances in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, New York City, Boston and Chicago. This full scale production includes everything from classical to rock, from opera to Broadway show tunes performed a variety of languages by 10 incredible male voices. Tickets are $55-$95.

Oakton College Presents Modern Language Film Fest

See some of the world’s most acclaimed contemporary films at the 24th Annual Modern Language Film Festival, Feb. 23 – April 29, at Oakton Community College. The public is invited, and film screenings are free at both campuses, 1600 E. Golf Road, Des Plaines, and 7701 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie.

The Illinois Holocaust Museum Presents Special Preview Of "Prisoner Of Her Past."

The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center presents a special preview of "Prisoner Of Her Past," a documentary by Kartemquin Films.

 

The movie tells the "haunting story of the secret childhood trauma" that emerged 60 years after  Holocaust survivor Sonia Reich lived the horror. The film follows Reich's son Howard, a Chicago Tribune arts and jazz critic, as he journeys across the US and Eastern Europe to uncover why his mother believes there is a conspiracy to kill her. The film explores late-onset post traumatic stress syndrome.

 

A panel discussion, question & answer session and book-signing with Howard Reich, will following the screening. Tickets are $20.

Explore "Lost In Translation,'' Part of Free Book Discussion Series On Jewish Literature

Benjamin Goluboff, associate professor of English at Lake Forest College, will lead participants in a discussion of "Lost In Translation,'' from 7 to 8:30pm in the Acorn Room at Oakton College, Skokie.

 

The program is the first in a series of discussions on Jewish Literature focusing on the theme, "Between Two Worlds: Stories of Estrangement."

 

Class sessions are comprised of readings, lectures, and engaging group discussions.  Students can borrow a copy of each book at the Skokie campus library.  Advance registration is required. The program will be held on five Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30pm in the Acorn Room of Skokie's campus. Upcoming dates include:
