UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon Calls On World to Assist Pakistanis Affected By Floods

 

 

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Sunday called upon the world to step up assistance to Pakistan, where some 20 million people are affected by the country's worst floods.

 

 

'We are trying to mobilize all the necessary assistance, and remember that the whole world is behind the people of Pakistan at this time of trial,' Ban said after his plane landed at an army airbase near Islam

AFIRE Lifeline: SSI For People With Disabilities And Their Survivors

SSI or Supplemental Security Income is a federal income supplement program funded by tax revenues (not Social Security taxes). It is designed to help aged, blind and disabled people who have little or no income. It also provides cash to meet basic needs for food, clothing and shelter.

 

SSDI or the Social Security Disability Insurance Program pays benefits to persons and certain family members if they worked long enough and paid social security taxes.

Extraordinary Students Honored At Skokie Holiday Inn Event

The Global Organization of People Of Indian Origin (GOPIO) honored outstanding Midwest medical and high school students at an awards banquet held July 11th at the Holiday Inn in Skokie.

 

Five students were honored. Shikkar Shah and Urveel Shah each received the Subhash Mehta Scholarship Award for their academic excellence.

 

Blake Freeman, Adrianna Kashuba and Mara Terras each received the Gandhi-King Medical Award for performing extraordinary volunteerism in their communities.

India's Independence Day Celebrated at Skokie Library

The Indian Association of Skokie hosted an exciting celebration of Indian culture and the 63rd anniversary of Indian Independence today. Acts ranged from Bollywood to classical dancing to crowd pleasing songs, all a hit with attendees.
