Ethical Humanist Society's Annual "Prairie State Companion" Serves As Fundraiser For Ill Member

The Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago holds its annual "A Prairie State Companion" show at 8 p.m. Feb. 13, at the Second Saturday Coffeehouse, 7574 N. Lincoln Ave., Skokie. The society is a fellowship organization that welcomes individuals seeking a compassionate philosophy for life regardless of spiritual belief or nonbelief.

 

 

This year’s show is being performed this year as a fundraiser for Brian Barnes, an Oak Park resident and member of the society who is battling leukemia. He has been a society member for 13 years.

A donation of $10 is being requested.

 

"A Prairie State Companion" show, performed by society members, is modeled after the Garrison Keillor-hosted radio variety program, "A Prairie Home Companion," which features music, stories and sketches, most full of satire.

 

 

Get Ready, Get Set... Kindergarten!

Stories with Dot

Dot Kane is the funniest storyteller you’ll ever see. She was chosen as a 2004 “Favorite for Kids” by Chicago Magazine and is best described as “stand-up comedy for kids." Dot tells original and classic stories using props, costumes, puppets, and madcap hilarity.

Other Information:For families with kids ages 3 to 7. Registration is not required. Free tickets will be available 30 minutes before the start of the program.

Summertime Preschool Storytime

Description of Event: 

Each week of this special storytime features a different librarian and his or her favorite stories, rhymes, and fingerplays for an all-around good time! Children must be at least 3 years old by the start of the program and parents must remain in the Youth Services Department during the storytime. For ages 3 to 5. Registration is not required.
