Most people picture the tango like this: Two dancers, hands clasped, arms locked and extended, cheek against cheek, gliding across the dance floor to a staccato beat.

Description of Event: 

The 2009-2010 Auroris Dance Company presents "Momentum,'' at Niles North High School, 9800 Lawler in Skokie.

 

Seventeen students will perform jazz, tap, modern, hip hop, ballet, Broadway and contemporary dances. Included will be "Nerd Herd,'' a dance performed at the National High School Dance Festival in Miamia this spring. Tickets are $9; $10 at door.

Description of Event: 

Elements Contemporary Ballet takes a daring and contemporary approach to ballet, showcasing stunning versatility with innovative works by up-and-coming choreographers. Artistic director Mike Gosney has gathered a talented group of dancers to bring new concepts into the world of ballet while engaging classical lines in works that excite and entertain all audiences. The performance will include explanation and demonstrations of how contemporary ballet and classical ballet relate, and time for questions.

In celebration of Korean American Day, enjoy a special dance performance. The Dance Department of Chung-Ang University will present classic and contemporary ballet, and Chicago's own Korean traditional dance group Choomsarang will also perform. Choomsarang performs at more than 30 festivals each year and will be touring Central and South America in 2010.
