Skokie's Winter Roads

Skokie's Winter Roads

Road salt supplies are ready to go this year.  Due to the milder second half of last winter, a lot of road salt was stockpiled for future use.  This year, Skokie chose to contract with Cargill Salt for 4,000 tons of salt at $68.22 a ton --- much less than the $125 a ton which was charged by going through the state channels in previous years. Let's hope for blue skies.

Downtown Swift Update

The schedule for the construction of the downtown Swift station has been delayed, but a new timetable is in place. Skokie is expected to go out for bids over the winter and to begin construction in the spring.  Construction should last between 15 and 20 months, with completion in late summer or early fall 2012. Federal grant money is expected to pay for about 75% of the project.

The extension of the Skokie Swift Yellow Line --- using either rail or buses --- continues to cause heated discussion by residents and Mayor Van Dusen.  Originally the CTA recommended extending the Skokie Swift Yellow Line in conjunction with the opening of the Oakton St.

I-294 shut south of Willow Road

(AP) — A power line fell across all six lanes of the Tri-State Tollway, bringing traffic in both directions to a halt.

Illinois State Police say a construction crane apparently hit the line over Interstate 294 on Tuesday morning. Officials say traffic was stopped just south of Willow Road.

Police are advising drivers to avoid the area.

San Francisco - Escaping Chicago and Skokie for the Winter

I was amazed recently by the Skokie Digital Lab at our library. I'm amazed by technology and am a bit behind all these new services we've been getting.

Anyways - one of the inspirations I had is to start learning web design and development so I can hopefully use the Canon Powershot and the Flip Camera and the Mac and all the other cool stuff at the library.
