Two Pioneer Press Journalists Honored For Their Work

Two Pioneer Press sports journalists have been honored for their contributions to the field.

 

Dennis Mahoney, a sportswriter for the paper since 1991, has been inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

 

"It's very very flattering,'' Mahoney told his colleagues at the Press. He said he's always approached his job as a storyteller rather than an expert. "It's not about me being some expert, it's about the kids and the coaches.

NorthShore Mag Sold To Burgeoning Wilmette Media Company

Fast growing MakeItBetter.net became metropolitan Chicago's largest information and community networking source catering to suburban women Friday with the purchase of NorthShore Magazine's assets, a 32-year-old publishing mainstay.

 

The purchase from Sun-Times Media comes six months after MakeItBetter.net launched a magazine companion to its 3-year-old popular Internet site. The website had over 35,000 unique readers in the first three months of 2010.

Local Paper is Finalist for Journalism Award

Congratulations to the Chicago Jewish Star, which was named a finalist in the category "Best Editorial Writing" in the Peter Lisagor Awards for Exemplary Journalism. Topical Editorials submitted included reasons not to hold the Olympics in Chicago, comparing speeches of President Obama with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, and imagining a speech President Obama might deliver if Iran becomes a nuclear power.  This is the first time the paper entered this contest.
