Tables Turned! Carolyn Reiner Honored at the Bears of Hope Luncheon

Sandra Schuster, on the left, stepped forward to be honored for her volunteer work for the Bears of Hope at McCormick and Schmick. In accepting, she played down her role and spoke instead about the impact her friend Carolyn Reiner, founder of the Bears of Hope, was having by providing comfort to children and others suffering trauma or ill health.

Niles Township Food Pantry Director Cynthia Carranza meets at least one person in need almost every day she's on the job.

"There are so many people hurting right now because of the recession," she said. "People are struggling like never before. I see people who come here who have lost their jobs. It's practically a daily occurrence." Read more
