National Able Network, 180 N. Wabash in Chicago, starts a two-week work readiness training class March 8th for veterans who seek to sharpen their job readiness skills.

Unite for Sight is a non-profit eye care organization whose goal is to eliminate preventable blindness by holding community outreach programs to increase awareness about eye care and helping people access quality eye care.

In accepting, she played down her role and spoke instead about the impact her friend Carolyn Reiner, founder of the Bears of Hope, was having by providing comfort to children and others suffering trauma or ill health.

Niles Township Food Pantry Director Cynthia Carranza meets at least one person in need almost every day she's on the job.

"There are so many people hurting right now because of the recession," she said. "People are struggling like never before. I see people who come here who have lost their jobs. It's practically a daily occurrence." Read more
