Early voting for the November 2, 2010 election begins on October 12, 2010 and

ends on October 28, 2010 at Skokie Village Hall, 5127 Oakton Street, Skokie.

Any registered voter in suburban Cook County may vote early at this location or

North Shore Mosquito Abatement to Begin Spraying.

Bookmobile to Take A Rest

Monday, August 16th through Saturday, August 21th the Bookmobile will be off for maintenance and gearing up for the new school year.  Please remember if you are calling in for books to be put on the Bookmobile, that the Bookmobile will NOT be in operation until Monday, August 23rd.

Ken Kring graduated from Niles North in 1982. He went on to study business at Oakton, DePaul and Northwestern. He wrote a book called Business Strategy Mapping. As of this year, 2010, he's working at Sears Holding Company. He's married to Pam Conway Kring, who works over at the Illinois Science and Technology Center in Skokie. They have two sons.

Computer and electronics recycling at your front door

Now through October, you can have your old computers and electronics picked up for recycling right at your own front door. For $25 you can recycle 6 items. Cell phones and calculators are free. The At Home Pickup Program has diverted over 165,100 pounds of computer e-waste from the landfill since the program began in 2007.

Oakton Street will be closed from Friday, August 27 at 10 a.m., through Monday, August 30 at 2 a.m.

Plans for Urban farm at Howard Street and North Shore Channel Moving Along

The Skokie Park Board approved an operating agreement with the nonprofit group, The Talking Farm, to run the planned urban farm on Metropolitan Water Reclamation District property near Howard St. and McCormick Blvd.

TheTalking Farm advocates supporting a local, healthy food system. The farm will include classrooms and demonstration areas. There will be an agro forest as well as vegetable gardens. The produce will be sold to the public.

The estimated cost of building the farm is $1 million, to be raised through donations and grants.

Skokie Health Department Offers Immunization Clinics

Childhood immunizations are available for a $5 clinic fee for children who live in Skokie or attend a Skokie school.

 

A complete record of your child's previous vaccinations must be provided prior to finalizing an appointment.

 

Immunization Clinics are being held every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to noon in the lower level of Village Hall. Call 847.933.8252 to make an appointment.
