On Tap For September's Science Cafe: The Science of Brewing Beer

 

Science Cafe is back for another season of thought-provoking discussion! On tap for September: the science of brewing beer.

 

"Beer Science! Beer Scientist!" will be presented at The Firehouse Grill, 7500 Chicago Ave. in Evanston on Wednesday, Sept. 22nd at 6:30pm.

 

We'll talk about the basics of processing and fermentation and the production differences between lager and ale.

Historical research has become a passion for many African Americans and genealogy has become a fulltime hobby for many Americans. Individual research and pointers on how to use the Internet will be shared by the individual doing the family research. This group will meet on the second and fourth Monday evenings of each month at 7pm in the Levy Center, Evanston. There is no charge for this program.

Village Hall Offices Closed Labor Day

The Village of Skokie offices will be closed on Monday, September 6, 2010 in observance of the Labor Day weekend.

 

Due to the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 6, 2010, no refuse or recycling collection will take place that day.

Annual Flu Shot Clinics Continue

The Skokie Health Department will offer influenza (“flu”) shots, by appointment only, to Skokie residents this fall. Proof of Skokie residency will be required for all participants, and appointments will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. You can make your own appointment on line at www.skokie.org and clicking the appointment link or by calling the Health Department at 847-933-8252 if you do not have computer access. The clinics will be held on Tuesdays, September 28 and October 12 from 10 a.m. until 2p.m., and on Monday, October 4 from 3 to 7 p.m.

FEMA approves Federal Disaster Aid for Cook County Skokie Residents Impacted by Recent Storms Encouraged to Apply

 

 

The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that President Barack Obama signed a Disaster Declaration for Cook County for Individual Assistance in regards to the flooding disaster that Cook County suffered on July 24, 2010.
