Daphne Bigelow

Daphne Bigelow

The name Daphne Bigelow came from a 1976 PBS movie entitled, "Phantom of the Open Hearth." It was one of a series of movies written by comic genius Jean Shepherd. The most well-known in the series is "A Christmas Story" which runs every year on one television station or another.

"Phantom" featured the adventures of a family in the fictitious town of Hohman, Indiana. Daphne was this blonde bombshell in high school that all the teen-age boys lusted after but none could ever approach. We thought the name was a whimsical departure from Bootsie, Rover, Spot, Tumble and Puddles (no offense intended).

Daphne

Daphne was a Bearded Collie, the same breed used in the movie "The Shaggy Dog" starring Tim Allen. Beardies are herding dogs by nature and Daphne was always trying to herd the neighborhood kids who gathered in front of our house. Highly gregarious in personality, they make great companions.
