Skokie Wants Lesser Penalties for Teens Caught with Pot

Skokie hopes that softer penalties for minors who possess small amounts of marijuana and paraphernalia will help keep teens out of the criminal justice system. 

 

The village board passed a premlimary vote to change the Skokie code on September 19, and a final vote is scheduled for October 3.

 

If passed, the law would grant police discretion on whether or not to charge teens found with less than 2.5 grams of marijuana or other drug paraphernalia.
