National WhiffleBall Championship

National Whiffleball Championship

The National Whiffleball Championship was held at Channelside Park on June 27th this year. It was a great battle among the 22 teams, 17 of which came from Chicago and its suburbs. Skokie was represented by its team, Just One More, which failed to make it to the quarterfinals. Those 22 teams played four straight games with the best eight advancing to the single-elimination rounds. The teams left at this point were the Balco Boys from Mishawaka, Indiana; Club Ripped from Munster, Indiana; the Whiffleballers from Highland Park; the Lowe Riders, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; YTS, from Fort Wayne, Indiana; the NWL stars, from Lake Villa; the Looney Wifflers, from New Carlisle, Indiana; and Whiffology from Barrington.

These teams played one game, and three teams from Indiana joined the Whiffleballers of Highland Park in the semifinals. These teams played, and the Balco Boys and Club Ripped came out on top. These two teams received free entry into the 30th World WhiffleBall Championship held in Mishawaka, Indiana on July 25th and 26th this year. Balco Boys came in first in last year's world championship, and they are now ranked as the best team in the world. Club Ripped, already the holders of two world championships, is ranked second. Everyone was waiting for the match between these two great teams. While both get entered into the world championship, only one can win the tournament and the gift certificates to Chipotle Mexican Grill. That one team was Balco Boys, winning the first ever National Whiffleball tournament held in Skokie. The Balco Boys team includes Erick Wodrich, Joe Stratton, Ryan Warmoth, and Dan Zeiger.
