This weekend I went to see the new Batman movie The Dark Knight. I wasn't too sure what to expect, because I heard mixed reviews about it. Some of my friends said it was a little too long, and I usually do not have enough patience to sit through a very long movie. Some people also told me the movie is a little scary, and I cannot stand any type of scary movie. Though both of those statements are somewhat true the movie was still great and it definitely lived up to all of its hype.
If you love action and suspense this movie is definitely for you. It was thrilling from the beginning to the end. Not once was there a moment where I wasn't jumping out of my seat dying to know what was going to happen next. Every time I thought that I figured out the Joker's plan, he did something so crazy and extraordinary that I did not even think was possible for anyone to do. This movie has so many twists and turns and surprises, every scene caught me off guard. Everything in that movie was not as it seemed, and it made you think twice about what was going on.
Although this movie is about Batman the real star of it was the Joker. Heath Ledger was so great at playing that part that it was almost scary how good he was. That role was definitely one of the hardest roles anyone could do, but Ledger played it to perfection. He took us into the sick and disgusting mind of the Joker, and also made us think about what was happening in the world around us. It was never made clear as to why the Joker became such a sickening and horrid person, but that just made his role more mysterious and for the better. It was revolting to think that anyone’s mind could be that way, and that anyone could think of plans the way the Joker did.
Even though the Joker was probably the most sick minded person I will ever see, his role made me think about my mind and others. All of his plans made everyone he tortured go insane. The Joker implied that the people are not going insane, but instead showing their true selves in a society that would not accept them for who they really are. He brings out the Joker inside of them, and knows how to turn great heroic people into evil villains. The Joker is the ultimate bad guy; he knows how to get into a person's mind and bring the worst out of everyone. The movie definitely made me think twice about my own attitude towards society, and which people I could trust.
The Dark Knight was so far the best movie I have ever seen. I have never been this excited about a movie before, and honestly I don't even like superhero movies that much. It was always exhilarating, and always kept me on my feet. The movie sucked me out of reality for a few hours, and by the time it was over it took me a while to realize that the movie wasn't real. The movie taking place in Chicago made it seem even more real, because I practically live there. The acting in it was phenomenal, especially Heath Ledger's part. At times it was a little creepy and the movie is almost three hours long, but the movie was so great those small things didn't bother me. If you have not already, go see The Dark Knight, trust me you will not regret it.
