Librarian Mary Radmacher Memorial

Mary Radmacher, former chief librarian of the Skokie Public LIbrary died June 9, 2008. Her career with the Skokie Public Library lasted 29 years. She oversaw the building of the library's permanent home in 1959 and a major expansion in 1972. Her devotiion to quality, openness, and welcome are attributes that are still carried on today. She was key in introducing Bookmobile service, initial automation of the card catalog and equipment and staff training to make materials accessible to those with vision impairments and other disabilities before such services were commonplace. She also founded the Young Steinway Concert Series in 1981 which continue today. She attended Monmouth College and graduated from the University of Illinois. A public memorial serivce will be held in the Mary Radmacher Meeting Room of the Skokie Library at 1pm on Sunday, July 13.
