Special Neighbor Mocking Honored by Residents
Submitted by lee on May 17, 2008 - 11:10am.
Fred Mocking recently had a cover article written about him in the Skokie Review, May 15, 2008, issue. Numerous acts of kindness, resourcefulness, and generosity are recalled by his neighbors on Arcadia Avenue in Skokie. Mocking, 87 years old, retired from Teletype Corp. in 1982. Using his mechanical and engineering skills he has helped neighbors solve problems large and small - from creating a door for a cat to fixing a damaged sink sprayer. "Eeveryone has counted on him for a long time," said Pam Lichtenstein, who has lisved next to Mocking for 35 years. He also serves as a volunteer at East Prairie School and at Evenue to Independence, a sheltered workshop. "I never thought about what drives me or keeps me going," said Mocking. "I see something that I think should be changed...and I just do it."
