Important Road Closure Information: Skokie Swift Yellow Line Track Crossing Improvement Project

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has informed the Village of Skokie that it will replace track and roadway approaches to two Skokie Swift rail crossings. While road closures are necessary for this track crossing improvement project, CTA indicates that Skokie Swift service should not be interrupted. Construction on the improvement to the crossings at Oakton Street and East Prairie Road is scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 9 p.m. and is expected to last for one week, concluding on Thursday, May 22, 2008 by 5 a.m. For Oakton Street: Oakton Street will be closed to traffic between Skokie Boulevard through LaCrosse Avenue. Eastbound traffic will be re-routed via Niles Center Road, Lincoln Avenue, Howard Street and Skokie Boulevard to Oakton Street. Westbound traffic will be re-routed via Skokie Boulevard, Howard Street, Lincoln Avenue and Niles Center Road to Oakton Street. “No Parking” restrictions will be in affect on Oakton Street between Skokie Boulevard through LaCrosse Avenue. For East Prairie Road: East Prairie Road will be closed to traffic between Mulford Street through Harvard Terrace. Northbound traffic will be re-routed via Harvard Terrace, Crawford Avenue and Hull Street to East Prairie Road. Southbound traffic will be re-routed via Hull Street, Crawford Avenue and Harvard Terrace to East Prairie Road. “No Parking” restrictions will be in affect on East Prairie Road between Mulford Street and Harvard Terrace.
