Library Employees, Friends Re-cycle Eight Bikes at Bike Drive
Submitted by Anonymous on April 15, 2008 - 7:38pm.
Volunteers Chris, Jesse and Adam from the Recyclery load a sweet vintage Schwinn, the last of the bikes collected at Skokie Public Library's first Used Bike Drive, into the Recyclery's truck on April 14. Both library employees and friends of the library "re-cycled" bikes that had been taking up space and going unused in their attics, basements, and garages.Volunteers at the Recyclery, a local, used bicycle collective based in Evanston, will refurbish and tune up some of the bikes, and will break down others for parts. Some of the bikes may be used in the Recyclery's Earn-a-Bike program, in which students learn how to restore, refurbish and maintain bikes. Other bikes may end up being given to needy families or one of the Recyclery's partner organizations.
