Taxi Fares On The Rise
Submitted by lee on April 11, 2008 - 5:15pm.
Not since 2005 have taxi fares been raised for trips to O'Hare and the meter rates were last raised in 2001. Now, due to the increase in fuel, insurance, and other operating expenses, the Village Trustees approved various increases for taxi fares. A ride to O'Hare from Skokie will go up $1 from $25 to $26. If the price of gasoline is more than $3 per gallon, a $1 fuel surcharge would be added to the rate, and if more than $4 per gallon, a $2 fuel subcharge would be added. The meter fee will increase from $1.80 per mile to $2 per mile. The hikes apply to American Taxi Dispatch, Northshore Cab Association, and 303 Transporation. Dial-A-Ride program participants will not be affected.
