Weekend Lane Closures on Edens Expressway

If your Friday or Saturday plans include traveling on the Edens Expressway/Interstate 94, you may want to allocate additional time to arrive at your destination, utilize public transportation or take an alternative route. The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) announced that two of the three lanes on the Edens Expressway will be closed in both directions this weekend due to a pavement patching project. The patching is in preparation for the Edens Rehabilitation Project which resumes April 4. This Friday, March 14, two lanes will be closed beginning at 10 p.m., with one of those lanes re-opening by 9 a.m. Saturday, March 15. One lane will remain closed through the evening hours of Saturday, March 15. Northbound lane closures will include the vicinity of Elston Avenue, Skokie Boulevard and Willow Road. Southbound lanes will be closed around Winnetka Road, Willow Road, Devon Avenue and Elston Avenue. The weekend pavement patching project will allow IDOT to resume the Rehabilitation Project. Construction is slated to begin April 4 and will include patching bridge decks and resurfacing all three lanes of the Edens Expressway from Lawrence Avenue to Lake Cook Road. Beginning in April and lasting through late summer, one lane of the Edens will be closed in both directions for this portion of the roadwork. From the end of July through the end of September, all lanes of the Edens Expressway will be open during daytime hours. During nighttime hours, there will be two lanes closed north of Old Orchard Road. Nightime closures on the Edens south of Old Orchard Road will also continue through the end of September. In addition to patchwork and resurfacing, the Edens Rehabilitation project also includes drainage modifications at the Foster Avenue, Pratt Street, Willow Road and Winnetka Road underpasses. Bridge repair will occur at the bridges over the Skokie River, Union Pacific Railroad tracks, Golf Road, Forest Glen Avenue, the North Branch of the Chicago River and Cicero Avenue. The project is intended to extend the life of the Edens Expressway, which was previously reconstructed in the late 1970’s. I am looking forward to the completion of this project as I know many of my constituents utilize the Edens Expressway for their daily commute. I will keep you updated if any changes occur. If you have any questions regarding these lane closures, do not hesitate to contact my office at (847) 724-3233. Sincerely, Elizabeth Coulson State Representative – 17th District
